A time-limited streaming model made sense.

Plus there was the rare circumstantial aspect: lots of people that don't normally sit at home all day were sitting at home all day.

Last year's time-limited streaming series was an exception, probably because its chief purpose (if I recall) was to fundraise for charity. So, my gut feeling is that concert home videos of any format, never mind physical, do not rank high on the priority list over at Elton Headquarters. Children born on the day that video package was released are now entering high school. When was EJ's last physical format concert home video? I think it was Elton 60, which was 2007. But these days, physical format releases of any of those concerts as home videos would probably be even less likely than a Dodger Stadium live album for RSD. I dunno, maybe something about the acoustics of an open-air venue threw him off a bit. He often sounds like he can't hear himself on the monitors so well. I didn't vote for the Dodger Stadium live album idea, but only because the few clips I've seen and heard of that concert would suggest that it wasn't EJ's best. Maybe even a Wembley Stadium 1984 live album, remixed?

Something like an Earl's Court 1976 live album might sound better than a Dodger Stadium album, even though the Dodger Stadium event was far more historic. And, let's face it, that show does not represent at all what that band later achieved on stage. Yet so far, unless I've forgotten something, the only concert EJ did with that band that's received an official release is the performance at Wembley in June 1975. The Earl's Court show from 1976 is just crazy good, I think. As great as EJ's classic band was (i.e., with Olsson and Murray), I often think that EJ's 1975-76 band (the Westies band, as I call them) was just as good, and perhaps even better live. That said, bootlegs I've heard of the 1975-76 shows were otherwise great, and many of those were just audience recordings.

This one doesn’t need much explanation a quick search of YouTube will reveal what’s out there in terms of material, a lot of it still unreleased, including that 1969 BBC version of “Sails” with Caleb Quaye outdoing himself on the guitar solo.Ĭlick to expand.I agree re: the live shows.

Complete BBC Sessions (2 or 3 LPs, depending on available material). I know that PR is not everyone’s favorite latter-day Elton album but I love it, and I know many EJ collectors (even those that do not like the album so much) who would buy a vinyl copy, if only they could get one.ģ. (Nothing against Billy Elliot it's just that those tracks had nothing to do with the Peachtree Road material.) Instead, use Side 4 for all those gorgeous non-LP Peachtree b-sides, like “How’s Tomorrow”, “Keep It a Mystery”, “So Sad the Renegade”, etc. I’d love a copy of the 2005 2LP with the revised artwork but it would be even better, I think, to reissue the album as a double-LP but without those Billy Elliot bonus cuts on Side 4. Other than Love Songs (1995), Peachtree is the only Elton album I don’t already have on vinyl. Peachtree Road (2 LPs with 2005 reissue artwork, sides 1-3 original album plus 4th side of non-LP b-sides). If the mono album master no longer exists, then perhaps it would be possible for someone to remix the album in mono, using a vintage mono LP copy as a reference(?).Ģ. Contrary to popular misperception, a mono Empty Sky (DJLP-403) was released (simultaneously, with the stereo version, DJLPS-403) back in 1969.

Feel free also to suggest other possible RSD Elton release ideas.ġ. So, choose up to three and feel free to explain (perhaps even rank) your choices in a follow-up post. This is pure “fan fantasy.” I based the list chiefly on suggestions/ideas that other forum members have on other threads-although a few are mine, like the Too Low for Zero white vinyl 2 LP and the Live in Australia “complete” box. None is known to be “in the works” nor has anyone at Rocket or Universal even hinted that such releases are forthcoming. Note, however, that all titles in the poll's list of choices are fictional. I’m curious to see which of the ideas in the poll's list receive the most positive responses from fans and collectors. Zippo, I thought I’d create a poll about possible future RSD releases for Elton John. While many of us are still on a musical “high” these days with the recent RSD 2021 release of Regimental Sgt.
